Week 4: Light and Shadow!

To continue our study of Genesis 1:3 and light, we are studying shadows this week. Now, unfortunately this Germany weather does not want to cooperate with our lessons. It is rainy and cold, and the sun is nowhere to be found. So, we're having to reword our lesson plans a bit to get the full understanding of light and how it plays a part in making shadows.

Today, we started off with making shadow shapes on the wall, and seeing how light casts shadows in the shapes of the things that it hits. They thought this was very cool, so we tested it further on them. I sat them against the wall and we traced their shadows to create silhouettes!

Next, I had each child made their own silhouette draws. Twirl chose to draw a silhouette of her horse, and Buzz chose to make the drawing of his knight figurines. They had a really good time with this activity!

There is so much that can be done when learning about shadows and light. I hope that the sun will come out sometime this week, so we can do our time experiment, showing how the shadow of an object will cast the same way at the same time each day. We'll see!
